Every phone on this site carries a source and a date. This page explains what that means in practice.
The order of sources
Figures are taken in this order. A lower source is used only when a higher one publishes nothing:
- The manufacturer’s own specification page for the market where the phone is sold.
- Official regulatory records — the EU energy label and the product information sheet held in the EPREL database, which manufacturers are legally required to file and keep accurate.
- The manufacturer’s own press release, used when a specification page has been retired or has not yet gone up.
Specification aggregators, review sites, retailer listings and press coverage are not used as sources. They are useful for learning that something is worth checking; they are not evidence of what the figure is.
What gets recorded
For each phone: the source page and the date it was read. The date matters more than it looks. Manufacturers edit specification pages after launch — correcting their own errors, changing a claim, or updating for a hardware revision — usually without any notice that anything changed.
A figure with no date attached is a figure nobody can check.
Fields left blank
A blank means the manufacturer does not publish that figure. It does not mean the figure is unknown to the world, and it does not mean the field is unimportant.
Battery capacity and charging wattage are the two most commonly omitted. Where a manufacturer publishes no capacity at all, no number appears here — not even a widely repeated one, because a figure that cannot be traced to the manufacturer cannot be verified against them either.
The green and amber marks
A green mark means every figure on that page has been read from a source and dated. An amber mark means the phone is listed but has not yet been through that process, and its figures are provisional.
Phones awaiting verification stay visible rather than being hidden until they are ready. A reader is better served by knowing what has been checked and what has not than by a site that shows only its finished work.
What is not measured here
Specrove runs no benchmarks, battery tests or camera comparisons, and publishes no scores. Everything here is a published figure with a traceable source. Judgements about whether a phone is any good are opinion, are marked as such, and are kept out of the specification table.
Manufacturer claims
Some figures are claims rather than measurements — “50% in 30 minutes” is what a manufacturer says their charger achieves under conditions they chose. Where such a claim is published here it is attributed as a claim, not presented as a result.
Errors
Mistakes get corrected rather than defended. If a figure is wrong, write to hello@specrove.com with the phone, the field and the source. Corrections supported by a manufacturer source are made promptly.
